New Zealand has a healthy predeliction for achievement and icons. It used to be almost exclusively mastering-the-elements/sport/physical activity-based - All Blacks, Ed Hillary, America's Cup, Peter Snell, that sort of stuff.
There is another side, though.
The Arts Foundation of New Zealand has established whakamana hiranga to celebrate living icons of NZ culture.
Hone Tuwhare is one of them.
I discovered this gem, tucked away on Charlotte Yate's website. Too good to be restricted to a small audience.
And buy the album. It's choice.
